  • This is the first year they are having 2 fellows (one dermatology-trained, one pathology-trained). The volume is good (~25k cases). There are fairly comprehensive didactics. Three of four attendings are derm trained; one is path trained, but she did her fellowship at Mt. Sinai in New York and it is a two year program. So she knows a great deal of clinical dermatology too.

  • Path trained fellows have clinic everyday from 1-3 p.m. except Thursdays (academic day), follow the attending and see ~5-10 patients/day. The clinic is downstairs and very convenient.
  • They generally choose their fellows about 2 years in advance. All the information is on the department website.

  • There is no call. The day starts around 7 a.m. and generally ends by 5:30 or 6. (although there is quite a bit of home reading, etc.) The two fellows are responsible for 2-3 conferences/week...including journal club, grand rounds, melanoma tumor board, a weekly Weedon didactic session and other occasional teaching sessions. The fellows trade off and do every other conference.
  • The fellows are required to do a research project/publication of some sort during the year as well as submit an abstract/poster for the ASDP meething. There isn't much time to do intensive bench resources so the projects are typically limited to case studies, reports, small IHC projects etc.

  • Fellows get 3 weeks vacation and 3 interview/meeting days. The health insurance is 100% covered by SLU for the employee and family. Dental, life, AD&D are extra.
