Program(s): One-year ACGME accredited fellowship providing comprehensive training in contemporary transfusion medicine. Training occurs in a large research institution with major transplant, surgical, trauma, and regional cancer programs and in a regional blood donor facility. A major goal of the program is a thorough understanding of scientific concepts underlying each aspect of transfusion medicine. Opportunities for clinical and laboratory research are available with possibility of continuation after the fellowship. Completion of the program prepares candidates for careers in academic transfusion medicine, supervision of a major transfusion service and/or operation of a regional blood collection-processing facility, and provides an entree to research in transfusion medicine. Requirements: Candidates for this program must be certified or eligible for certification by a major specialty board, such as pathology, medicine, pediatrics, etc. They must also hold a license or be eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the State of Wisconsin. Stipends: Salary is commensurate with the year of postgraduate training. There is a $500 book allowance, 15 days vacation, and funding available for presentation of a paper at a national meeting.
